Job Brief

  • Supervise packaging operations in accordance with plant policies and procedures
  • Responsible for all packaging room areas and functions including pouching, triangle, hand pack, and pick out
  • Interfaces with plant management, production management, maintenance, warehouse, sanitation, QA/QC and packaging staff
  • Comply with GMP and HAACP guidelines to ensure food safety, and meets customer specifications
  • Ensures that the department operates within given SOP parameters that ensure desired food quality results
  • Ensure that the department operates at desired production rates


  • Supervise packaging workers and communicate daily assignments to their shifts
  • Oversee the training of packaging workers and ensures the success of training
  • Report food safety and quality issues to Plant management and SQFP
  • Follow PIM Brands GMP rules
  • Monitor fellow employees for adherence to GMP’s.
  • Meet packaging production, quality, safety, GMP and HACCP standards
  • Maintain orderly and neat packaging areas
  • Coordinate the staging and timely delivery of packaging components (bulk, film, cartons, boxes and pallets) to the packaging operation
  • Identify and ensure that all packaging equipment is properly maintained and communicate issues to Maintenance
  • Facilitate orderly transition to other packaging supervisors on other shifts
  • Accurate, timely recording of packaging output, lot control, down time and maintain custody of materials and inventory
  • Coordinate packaging start ups, shutdowns and changeovers and cleanings.
  • Communicate daily with other plant and production managers, and packaging supervisors
  • Complete and ensure the accuracy of daily reports and review packaging sheets for accuracy
  • Identify and inform Maintenance on issues related to preventive maintenance activities, break downs and routine maintenance repairs and servicing
  • Create work orders
  • Coach and improve performance of staff
  • Has responsibility for food safety and/or quality
  • Coordinate the transfer and reassignment of personnel between packaging areas to ensure proper packaging operations
  • Ensure proper staffing coverage for all packaging operations
  • Knowledgeable about cleaning and guide staff
  • Have the ability to operate all packaging equipment
  • Understand expectations of quality produced and monitor to deficits
  • Conduct employee reviews
  • Ensure adherence to all packaging processes and product quality standards
  • Ensure adherence to safety standards

    Pouching Machines:

  • Inspect all equipment; hoppers, feed elevators, platforms, pouching machines, conveyors, scales, metal detectors, tapers and coders to assure cleanliness and mechanical integrity
  • Review all raw materials – film, cartons, tape, ink, bulk and boxes to assure quality, check specifications, check availability and FEFO use
  • Record all bulk use, material usage, scrap and production output for the shift. Coordinate delivery of all raw materials on a timely basis and have the finished product moved to the assigned area
  • Instruct Maintenance function to repair equipment or to make improvements to increase efficiency
  • Track equipment downtime and review troublesome areas with maintenance and management
  • Supervise the manpower by scheduling and assigning personnel to equipment and review their performance
  • Communicate with the QA/QC to ensure all quality standards
  • Compile all collected data and deliver it to the appropriate areas
  • Verify the previous shift’s production and review with the incoming supervisor the activity of the day and the current state of production

    Triangle machine:

  • Inspect the equipment, review the raw materials, coordinate the delivery of raw materials and removal of the finished goods, supervise the machine performance and personnel on the line, instruct the maintenance function as to breakdowns, line changes and improvements, and report all efficiencies and material usage
  • Ability to work additional hours as needed


  • High School education or equivalent is strongly preferred
  • Minimum 5 years packaging supervisory experience needed
  • Experience with various types of packaging equipment and working with large numbers of workers is desired
  • Thorough knowledge of packaging materials use is essential
  • An understanding of packaging operations and an ability to troubleshoot packaging operations problems is a must
  • Working knowledge of EXCEL, Microsoft Office and other software applications is required
  • Willing to be trained
  • Ability to read, speak, and write English is required
